I might be getting a t-maxx 3.3 from a friend and was wondering if my tm523 will directly bolt in or do I need a new mount?

It depends if you buy the engine only or the combo which includes the engine, the engine mount and the pipe and manifold system for the TM523 engine.

And yes for the TM523 you need a special engine mount.
