I have finally started tuning a 523 in my Revo. I basically went through the run in procedure and found I wanted to get a little more power/speed the engine was over fueling and stuttering and not making it into 2nd gear. From the factory 6 turns out on the HSN I am now 5 3/4 turns out and its making 2nd gear and pulling wheelies on demand. Its still smoking very heavily even at WOT and when you do the spit test it does not even form bubbles on the head. Theres certainly a lot more to come I think. Its still slighly slower than my 3.3 which was tuned hard, but theres a lot left on the 523 and its easy to tell its going to be a lot quicker.

Sounds great. Hope all is working for you. Have you run into any trouble with the install? How is your linkage? Any trouble with the carb or that left turn lean issue that others have experenced? I hope not. I have not installed my 523 yet, still sitting in its box waiting for me. I'm not done getting all the parts to complete my revo yet. Hope to hear nothing but good things about your 523. Let me know how things are going.

Had another play today. I am now at 5 1/2 turns out on the HSN lots of blue smoke still. I'll get it to around 235-240 oF and leave it at that point as long as there is a good smoke trail. So far no problems. If it hits a bump when it kicks into 2nd gear I have to come of the gas or it trys to flip over backwards. Once leaned out to the 235-240 oF point its going to be pretty quick I reckon.

that the temp i run my 523 about 240deg. for performance and i richen the low speed needle slighty so that when i stop the temp drops to about 215 if stop for like a minute. i took out my center diff and its alot of fun to wheely 1st or 2nd gear .The power is amazing on o'donnal 25% with a num 6 rb plug. after i kill this plug im going to try o'donnal 30% with a num 7 plug i was running a RR steal spur and cb 40/16 but the gears got chipped now ive got a 38/15 just a plastic stock spur and a rr cb I also run short ratio trans gears. So yea ive had my revo out. PEACE OUT AND GOD BLESS YOUR RC FUN

I run either the 323 or 523, depending on track conditions.

If it grooves up I use the 523 and on anything else, I use the 323.

Both these engines have run to perfection for me. I must admit though, they are a lil on the to much power side for my driving style. I like smooth delivery cause I run a 15/38 (stock) gearing with a center diff. The handling of the truck gets pushed to its limits if the engine is to strong!

I run OD 30, with stock plugs. Easy to tune, plenty of power and even decent run time, 8 mins on 150ml tank!

Glade to hear you guys are having great luck with this motor. I have yet to install the engine in my revo. I'm building this one from the ground up. How come some guys are having trouble with the left turn lean issue? You guys seem to have it licked. I'm almost positive that it's all in the tune. I had a savage that did the same thing. It would lean out around left turns. never bothered me though. Anyway I'm going to use the heat cycle method when I break mine in. Cant waite to see the preformance of this motor.

Keebler,

Just remember, CLOSLY WATCH BOTH BEARINGS AFTER BREAKIN!

Both front and the one rear on the 5 and 323 loosened up. Matter of fact, on the 5 the front totally fell apart! It lost the front black seal and when I started to change them out, it just fell apart after I removed the crank. I'm so glad I heard it going away. I noticed a lil more "rattling ping sound" than usuall during a practice run. Was the weirdest sounding thing.

To check this, start you engine, warm as usuall and rev with one hand on the head and rev with no hand on the head! If theres a change of pitch of the engine running, pull it apart and check them out!

I changed out them bearings and went with aftermarket ceramicball/steel race bearings with the fronts and rears for both.

OH God. The last thing I want to do is replace the bearings. I have never done this work before on an engine. What do I need to do in order to change out those bearings If this does happen to me. Also could you tell me what bearings to use just in case. Or rather what brand would be better then stock.

Keebler,

I used Boca High Performance with steel race and ceramic balls.

They are easy to change. Takes about ten minutes and I use a heat gun.

There is a link on the RB products web-site for heating instructions and I STRONGLY ADVISE you find this link.

No worries man, its not rocket science, just research before doing anything. Or take it to your LHS where you picked it up and get them to change them.

Anything else, PM me on this forum!
