I plan to run-in the 523 tomorrow. I use a starter box with my revo. I have been advised that the starter box may not be the best thing to use with a brand new 523 due to the compression being so high. I have been advised to back-off the glow plug by a whole turn to reduce compression and assist in starting the motor.
Any comments?

No real need to do inr in my point of view, what however is a good thing to do is just before you start the engine you pre-heat the engine with a hair-dryer so it is easier to start.

This is only for the first start, lat it run at least for 1 tank once you gget it started and when your engine stops ensure yourself that the piston is not blocked at TDC

Are you supposed to never stop the engine and leave it at TDC?
I have been seeing this and I assume that after you do the after run procedure you should turn the flywheel to get the piston down to BDC right?
I am not sure why this has to be done but I think its due to the sleeve expanding when hot and when it cools and shrinks down if the piston is in the way at TDC it can add stress to internals. Is this why?

If your leave the piston in TDC when the engine is still hot and then when the engine is cooling dow the piston will get stuck and so very difficult to start and sometimes impossible to start again, this is why we suggest to leave the engine at BDC when you stop the engine, especially when new.
Indeed when the piston blocks at TDC it produces a lot of stress which is not good for the material.
