I see alot of forums on the net regarding the backplate/pilot/starter shaft wearing out.
Can somebody please tell me if this is true and if it is how I can fix it. Also will it damage my engine. I am going back to South Africa in 2 months so I don't want to have expensive repairs when I get there.
Thanks in advance

In the construction where the pilot shaft for the starter is turning at the same rpm as the crankshaft there has to be some wear on the bronze bushing.
We are trying several solutions to improve this but a different construction will be also more expensive and untill now we find the life of this product correct.

The only way to fix this is to change the backplate and pilot shaft, or you use a normal backplate and start the engine with a starterbox when this is possible with your model of course.

I checked the play on my pilot shaft this weekend and has about 1/2mm. Is that still acceptable?.

Depends if your engine is working well and you have no excessive leaking at that area.

It's working fine but I will keep an eye on it. I must add that, since I bought this engine it never gave me any trouble and it is very easy to tune.
