G'Day, I have just got a 6mm carb restrictor for the RB 928.

Just a quick question. I take it to tune for these restrictors you only have to lean off the high speed needle?

I figure if you are getting less air in you need less fuel? At the moment it is running wothout any restrictors and I am after better fuel consumption.

Any info appreciated.

If less air is taken in then automatically less fuel is taken in. So this is not the problem. But you may have to open the needles a bit so that the mixture will stay the same (as the gap between the restrictor edge and the spraybar is bigger with this and changes the airstream that passes the sparybar, thus the negative pressure at the fuel outlet is lower).

I don't know how a .28 engine runs with a 6mm reducer but you may have to reset the whole carburetor to match the new situation.

Normally it should be enough to only change the HSN settings, however it can also happen you need to adjust also a little the LSN.

Indeed when the engine gets less air it should also use less fuel.

OK, Thanks fo the info.

At the moment I am getting about 6 minutes out of my RB928 without any restrictors.

So in theory if I was to install a 6mm reducer and leave the setting where they are at the moment I should be using less fuel?

Just making sure I have got this right.

Yes, as with a 6mm reducer the engine has just about less than half the previous inlet cross sectional area. But it has still lots more than just half the power then. This helps to save a lot of fuel, especially when you have had lots of wheel spin before.
Regarding the needles, just match them to the new situation, but probably that would be really just a bit.
Just out of interest, what car are you running that engine in?

Thanks for the info again.

The RB928 is in a Mugen MBX5T Truggy.

It would be good if I can get the run times down to about 10-12 minutes from a tank.
