does rb test run there engines before shipping out? reason asking is i just bought a hudy 5.8mm driver. which i may say is a very nice and awesome one at that. my first hudy driver. anyways, i used the driver to take the head off to place a .1mm shim inplace so i can break the tm728 engine in on 30% and also continue running 30% nitro. well to my suprise when i took the head off, there was a few very very very small pit marks on the top of the piston. they are black in color and about the size of a very small needle head. a total of about 9 maybe 10 marks total i'll post a very close up pic of the piston and tell me what you think. this engine was brand new when i bought it. i never ran it. just sat there on the shelf. the only thing i did do though was use after run oil in the carb to lube the inside of the engine so no rust would form from just sitting there. i have pulled the pull start about once a week or every other week just to keep the inside lubed up. thats all i have done with this engine. is the piston supose to have any type of marks on them from the factory?

Concerning the pit-marks you find on the piston, or you contact your LHS from who you have purchased the engine from or you post a good picture so we can see what you are speaking of.

Concerning the backplate screws, I think you need to use the next smallest size in the Hudy program.

also i tried taking pictures with my buddies camera it is only 6 megapixels and when you try to make the picture bigger on the computer screen it distorts it and you cant make out any fine detail in the picture of the piston. i'm saving up right now actually for a cannon g-9 which has 12.8 mega pixels and you can make out small detail with it. its about $450 usd. hopefully i'll get it soon so i can take some pictures of this engine to post them here

Normally 6 Mega should be enough to take a decent picture, try to make the picture from more distance and then zoom with the software on it.

i tried all different kinds of angles. couldnt get the cam to pick up the little pit marks. by the way i found a driver around the house that fit the backplate. i did take the plate off. the engine looks brand new on the bottom. no marks of being started. so in fact it is a new engine that i did buy. which takes the worries out. i thought i might have been riped off. also when you say zoom with the software on it. you mean use the digital zoom. the camera has a 4x optical zoom which means the lens magnifies the picture and the picture is true. after the 4x it goes to digital which means the pixels are now magnified meaning it will add distortion. but i'll give it a try. thanks again rody

I suggest you do not zoom with the camera but just try to get a sharp picture with a maximum resolution. The opent the picture on your computer and then try to zoom.

I think what you see on the piston are some tiny pors which can be normal, however since we do not know the size it is hard to say if this is normal or not.

rody i think you are right. i did take the back plate off and the engine looks brand new on the bottom. the rod is new looking, along with the crank and also the crank case. there is no exhaust marks at all. this thing has never been started. i confirmed this last night. and there are only 3 noticeable pits that are together around the same area. the other few you really have to look hard to see and theres only a total of maybe 7. you couldn't stick a needle in them there so small. i ran my finger over top of it and it feels smooth. no burrs or roughness. so with this conclusion i'll try once more to take a good pic and let the computer zoom. thanks again rody

With what I read I think there will be no problem for the engine to work without any problem.

ok, well i feel like a real dumbass. reason for my bad pics was because it was set to vga. 640x480. its a 6mp cam. i dont know much about my buddy's cam. today i was messing with it and i figured out that you can switch the mp around so after i switched it to 6mp, it took clear enough pics where i think it'll pick up the pitting. although i think your right. the engine should be fine. i have to wait for my 5.8mm hudy to come back from hudy. the tip broke after 2 times of using it. so after i get the new one back i'll take the head off and try takin another 6mp pic for you
