All, in order for me to get crisp max output from my 28, I'm running at temps of 315 -- nice trail of smoke and great sound.

I'm running 20% Nitro, with an MC-59 plug, and stock LST header and pipe. Also, I did cut out the windshield.

The temp is being taken by a temp-gun at the plug immediately after running it hard. The temps do come down after it is idling for a bit, so they're not run-away temps. My concern is with the unusually high temp.

Any insight? Should I be concerned?

315 is really too hot for me, however if indeed you see smoke and the engine always produces good power without you having the impression you run the engine too lean then probaly the device you use for measuring is not correct.

Rody, but the temps normalize when the LST sits there and/or rides around at lower throttle rates.

315 seems to high to me, normally on high competition races we try not to exceed 230 since if we go higher it will compromise the life and relaiability of the engine.

It truly is a conundrum -- the temp gun is correct. I just can't attribute the high temp -- the engine runs great

Hi Rody,

I´m running the TM728 in a Savage with stock header and TM-01 pipe and my temps are also going up to 320° after driving a few minutes. I´m running 25% Nitro with e RB 1056-6 glowplug.

What can I do, I guess I can´t richen up any more.

How long have you been driving it this way?, how is your compression?

What brand fuels are you running? I have seen as much as a 50F max temperature difference between fuels with the same engine optimally tuned for power and smoke.

@Rody

the engine has 5 Liters of Tornado 25% throu. Compression is very good. I´m trying not to drive the engine at that high temperature, always checking the temperature and slowing down when its too hot.

do you have any idea? I don´t think it´s a fuel problem.

Even if you richen the HSN once you have measured the temperature at 320 and push the engine as hard as before, then does it not lower?

Could also be that you measure closer to the glowplug then usual.

I will try next time to richen up more, but I think its allready as rich as posible.

I´m measuring with an infrared-device showing to the glowplug. Is this right?

thanks

If the engine seems rich to you then I would not worry too much on the temperatures and just enjoy, however the engine always must have power and you must see a trail of smoke coming out of the stinger.

Yes, you point at the glowplug, however you will notice that the closer you measure it also changes the temperature you read.

That's what i hate about temp tuning, you don't know where you should measure it, but i have the same temps in my terra crusher. And measured it with a few temp meters and i get quite the same results. The difference between readings is mostly 5C Celsius. I use a picco header. hpi ribbed pipe 20% tornado fuel and RB glow-plugs. I have bought a TM 01 pipe but i haven't tested it with that pipe yet. I do run with quite a high gearing on the spur pinion (22t/44t) but i don't think that's a problem because it responding good on the throttle and i ran 18t or 20t pinions with my os .21 But since i use a SPM adjustable clutch i am thinking i might have it to loose or to tight. Could having the clutch set wrong cause such high temps? (i have run it for around 4 litres now.)

Gentlemen, my temp issues have been resolved by removing the 2.5 inch stinger I had installed on the pipe in order to keep the exhaust pointed to the ground. The temps are running 30 degrees lower now -- what a difference this made.

Thx for your help
