Is this pipe similar to any others, 086, 063, etc? (Or what works well with the 728 engine?) I don't see a real clean way to connect my supplied TM-01 to my LST header, so am looking for options.

No, the TM-01 is not similar to the 086 and 063, but we have tried the 063 on the TM728 and it was working not too bad, it was even very silent and fast.

i would try a 053 on it.. since your stuck with a 1 piece pipe design, borrow one from a mayhem buggy, i liked how the 063 worked on it, but a 053 really makes it come to life vs the 063 and 086 i tried

I am going to have to try soething different, it seems like it is being choked on top, not wanting to really rev. I have a gearing problem in my LST, in that I can't gear it up, so it is topped out rather fast, but it sounds pretty bad at full revs, like it doesn't want to clean out and scream, kinda pops and gurgles like it is too rich, but temps are in the 230-240 area and little smoke, so I don't want to try leaning it any more. Could be getting lean on top, but sounds fat. Kinda funny idle too, like it may have a leak. Not really thrilled with the engine, but maybe I don't have enough fuel through it yet, probabaly only at 1/2 - 3/4 gallon.

If you cannot change the gearing you could try and decrease the pipe-length by shortening a little your manifold, this in general increases the high rpm's.

this is where the duratrax 051 woke mine up.. but i do not know if they still make that pipe (mine is over 2.5 years old, and i only tried it cause i had it), the 053 is real close though and compaired to the 063 and 086 opens it up..
the 051 actualy changes rpm tone at top end now much like my ws7II does with the 063, and was a major big differance in how fast its rolling..

Has anyone tried the supplied TM-01? Mine just still seems choked badly on top. I can't tell if I am expecting too much from the truck/engine after running my C5 buggy or if the pipe or something else is holding it back. I guess I am trying to figure out if the TM-01 is a pipe that was just "thrown in" or if it was made to work well with the .28. My truck usually holeshots, it jumps out in the first ten feet, then loses ground into the corner as other guys catch up.

Holy cow. I shortened the header by a good half inch, the top end is working correctly now, it screams!

Impossible to give you the best pipe-length of this pipe due to the different possible models it is used in and the place you can give the pipe.
What I suggest is that you mount the pipe in the model, try it and then if you want more top-speed you need to shorten the pipe-lenght(this can be done by shortening the header) or increase the pipe-length by using a longer connector inbetween the pipe and manifold.
If you are far off then you can also consider to change the gear-ratio.
