Yesterday when cleaning my engine I notices a ring between my engine and clutch. I removed the entire clutch with flywheel an could look directly at the balls of the front bearing. I put the shield back into place but it isn't very tight, I can move it a bit. Do I have a problem (I guess if it happens once it can happen again) or does it not harm my engine if I run it without the shield in place?
Thanks

I had an broken engine lying in my bedroom and the size of that front bearing was identical to the RB one. I have read someone exchanged the shields between engines and that worked. I gave that a try and I have to say it fits snug. No more wobbling aroud or something. The bearing doesn't make a scratchy sound or anything, so maybe I had a little luck. I'll keep a close eye on the matter an if it happens to fall out again I'll replace it anyway. That tip of yours CRS is new to me. It sounds very logical indeed and I am going to use your idea.
Thank you both for your help.

Your efforts are being very much appreciated CRS. Unfortunately my shim kit didn't have a proper one for this application. I will look for one at the hardware store.

Be carefull that the shim is not too thin, it can otherwise bend when tightening the flywheel and then the shimm will rub on the rubber and damage the shield.

I have about 1 gallon on my TM 728, and the front bearing is leaking a lot of fuel. The engine has been running between 200-220* since breakin. Some people I know say it's normal, others say it's bad. As far as I can tell, w/o removing the flywheel, the sheild is intact. Should I replace the bearing(s)? Is seepage normal? When I finish running one tank of fuel, there is a line of fuel that has been sprayed on the pipe from the spinning flywheel... I think the seepage is a little excessive.
If I need to replace the bearings, I would like to get ceramic ones... But I will need the exact dimensions for the bearings.

Don't use ceramic bearings in these engines, they are expensive and will not make you gain anything. I suggest you visit your LHS from who you have purchased the engine from and ask them for advice, if you need to change the bearing then change it with an original.
