Rody, could you clarify something for me - the LSN is set how ? the prevouse engines I've owned the 'closed' position was attained by holding the throttle in and screwing in the LSN until resistance is felt or the gap in the carb begins to open, I remember reading somewhere that RB engines are done different that the throttle is held open and then the LSN is screwed in to get to the closed position, is this right ? (it is actually a big difference in the factory position depending on which method is used

Yes, for our engines it is suggested to keep the throttle opened while doing this.
If you do it in the orther way it is very hard to explain when you should stop turning because the taper of the needle is so small that you almost cannot feel when you are really closed, and while doing this you can increase the hole of your spraybar wich is not really good.

I'm a little confused as to how the open method works. I've been using the closed and it always seems that I can't get near a baseline. I always need to lean the LSN way out and I'm guessing that the open method would make it a leaner setting to start with. With the carb open how far do I tighten it before I back it off?

jtk37-Rody can correct me if I'm wrng but what you do is hold the throttle open then screw in the LSN till it stops (ensuring not to overtighten)- That is closed, then back it out the appropriate amount
