Correct the pipe is hollow inside and does not have extra chambers.

I've read about the 086 and 063 pipes actually performing better with the 728. Is this true, what are the benefits of the TM-01 over those pipes?

Indeed the 086 or 063 pipes can perform better in some circumstances, especially at top-speed.
However the TM-01 pipe is devlopped more for fun purpose and gives more torque to the engine and also the sound is wilder.

So what would you suggest for race conditions? I have used the 086 w/waller on the 728 for a year with great results.I notice significantly more bottom end with the waller, in this application, while the engine revs well with good topend speed.

I would suggest to use what you have found best untill now, so the 086 with waller seems a good option.
