Well having broken in properly and having a chance to tune it.

I am running 18/49 in a savage for gearing.
It has no problems carrying the wheels for 10+ feet.

Temps peak around 260 and run around 220-240.
I am running stock savage ss header and a RB 063 tuned pipe.

My only frustration is the top end seems lacking. I will have to modify my TVPs to use a bigger clutch bell.

I will be trying an HPI Ribbed pipe later today and see if that helps at all with the Top End.

We had it in front of a radar gun around lunch time... it pulled 37mph.
I was fairly dissappointed, as the person before me with an .247 pro pulled 54mph running 16/49 gearing.

Would 086 pipe help out? What are other people running for pipe and gearing combinations.

If Rody says that this motor is only for tourqe I can accept that, as Monster Trucks are supposed to wheelie, climb stuff and jump. Just wish it had more speed.

Thanks!

The 086 pipe is a good top end pipe.
As I had expected, I don't think that the 28 will be much of a top end monster, but you might take advantage of the torque and run a larger clutch bell gear.

Stupid me,
After more turning...
I was wondering why my truck sounded like it was winding out and not going as fast as it should.

I thought perhaps the slipper, while inspecting the slipper... I noticed brass shavings. My Collet was being lathed at higher RPM by the flywheel.

After tear down, inspecting everything, the inside of the pilot nut dissentegrated, leaving only the outer edges of the nut to hold the flywheel.

It also seems that the ribbed pipe offered more mid and top, than the 063 without noticeable loss to the bottom.

I will also see if I can squeeze a 20t clutch bell in the savage.

Cheers.

Check also if your carburetor opens completely.

Thank you for the reply Rody.
Yes, the carb opens completely. Double checked that.

Will there be a top-end tuned pipe for this motor or do you suggest the RB 086?

I've gotten some suggestions to gear it down to a 16-17 clutchbell to help the motor "wind up" but even with an 18t clutchbell this motor will carry the front wheels for 10ft.

I will also change the shift point on the tranny since right now it does shift fairly early within first 5ft.

Cheers

I think this motor has plenty of top end and gobs of torque,,for me anyways.

If I want to go fast I'll break out my onroad car!

Shorten your pipe-combination, this should make your engine rev more.
