I was having the same trouble. I tried putting a nylon washer in between the rope holder and the backplate but it made to much drag on the recoil. I bought another pull rope and it held a little better it was not an rb concepts pullrope it was a picco pullstart. After that i had a problem with the spring coming off so i put a small bolt and nut with washers on the pull rope. If you take the metal hex out you will see where the spring fits in the little holder. thats where i put it and i haven't had any problems yet

I just reciently had to pull the pullstart apart and degrease the oneway brg. Everything looked fine,,so far. I dont understand the plastic spool tho,,I know the obvious reason,,but was thinking maybe a metal insert around the hex in the plastic spool would save that wear as mine is showing signs of wear.
Im not an engineer,,just thinking out loud!

What about my problem with the spool cocking sideway's and slipping? The plastic spool seems strong enough ,but it is striped from the middle to the side that faces the motor.
If I push on the side of the pullstart with my thumb ( pushing the metel hex back in the center of the plastic spool ) every thing works great.
My Question is do I need to replace just the plastic spool? and or the pullstart cover?
And is there a replacement part on the market yet?
And wow! is this a Monster motor thank you to RB.

I too experienced this problem. Plan to try 1 more pullstart, then off to buy a starter box (XTM Mammoth can use a starter box easy).
Rody: How would I remove all the pullstart bits and put on a different backplate like the one for the WS7II?

Try breaking the glow plug 1/2 turn open when starting the 28. It has much compression and this will take alot of the force off the pull rope making it very easy to start. I had to learn the hard way. You might want to but a new pull start. But this works very well for me after you start it take the ignighter off and tighten the glow plug. ready to run problem solved.
