will the .28 be a direct fit for savage or will I have to make the engine fit some how?

the engine mount requires attention.. either buy a good quality on elike a nova or cut the stock one in half, or break out the dremal and clearance the mount to fit around the block.. i did the dremal way till my nova one can be found..

I ended up purchasing the HPI 2 piece motor mount and it worked fine.
