I actually read here that the stiffeners aren't allowed any longer by the EFRA. So what was the reason to decide so? And would it be legal to close the chassis with (carbon) sideboards like buggies have? This would also help to stiffen the body. I find that decision a bit curious ... always in mind that 3-speed gearboxes are still allowed (at least when I was checking the 1/8 rules the last time). Also it seems to be a very quick decision because actually no manufacturer had changed its cars (or bodies) so far and with the custom made things ... what brings even an advantage (f.e. leading the bottom air stream sideways in front of the rear wheels, ... "No Sir, it's just a stiffener "). BTW are molded-in stiffeners allowed on the inside or just on the outside? I'm just asking because of this new CanAm body by ALL Mod (MID Mugen):
The main reason is that the stiffeners inside the body can make the body wider and because of that you will get sidewings for a more stable car. When de body is approved by the EFRA the stiffeners are not there so they shouldn't be a part of the body.

Thanks Roelof. But you also can widen the body by stiffeners mounted at the chassis, beside there's a maximum allowed width of 267mm and if I remember right then this is also for the body.
Anyway ... there would have been much easier ways to control the sidewall angles of a body .
Maybe the next generation of bodies won't need those extra stiffeners any more like already the ALL Mod f.e..
