hi i thought id take some time to ask for suggestions on head clearance when running 16% fuel. as i understand it the engines are set up for 25% content and was wonderring if i needed to make any adjusments to assure a good engine with a decent lifespan?
also can lower nitro content mean hotter plugs?

If you use 16% nitro then I suggest you leave the engine as it is, as for the lifespan it all depends how you maintain and run your engine.

With a lower nitro content you can indeed use a hotter glowplug.

thanks, i had a guy from rc importing wharehouse who helped me tune engine it runs beautifully and even when a little rich. got plenty of smoke top and bottom of rev range. i do find i a little tricky with this engine to tune it on my own even thoug ive had a few engines in past over the years but all have been much more basic types. i found that more care has to be taken here with the agressive porting on the rb 523. its fantastic power is too much for my short wheelbase truck and is eveident on the main straight at my local track as it tries too spin out when increasing revvs . think i got a good engine here . took 3 litres to run it in and the patience has reallly paid off.
im running 16% nitro with it fairly rich and find it faster than another revo with 523 on 25%. also id like to mention that i read somewhere in forums about engine temps being about 200 too 210 and ive found that in my case it just doesnt perform at all in that temp range, mines more 230.
i am in midlands and running it in humid enviroment. maybe this accounts for the motor favouring 230 plus temps.
if im wrong i appreciate any professional advice on the motor.
my intention for buying the rb 523 was that i could run it rich using less revvs and low nitro so that i have a powerful engine that lasts a long time. id hope to get 12 gallons through this motor eventually. and i mean that sincerely i feel i should add also that i wont be screaming the life out of it as i beleive lower gearing (saving fuel) is practical and a good idea.
p.s my truck is modified and quite light.

There is nothing wrong with running the engine at 230F, as long as it performs and you see smoke coming from the stinger I would not worry too much.

Using a stronger engine and running it richer increases indeed the lifespan of an engine, but once you are at a race and you have a fellow competitor using the same engine at a more agressive carburetor setting and being in front of you, it makes you lean the engine too.

If you find the compromise you like with the engine, then use it as is if you are happy with it.

yea i know what you mean, track i was at is short and windy not like the uk nat tracks ive seen, half a field on flat ground fresh grass running. now that wouldbe speed demanding.

please rody can you possibly squeeze more addrenaline out of your blocks?? i think not!

cheers
rob.

The more power you try to get out of the engine the more difficult it becomes to get the power coming where you want.

I think the C6-BB is the best compromise we have found untill now.
