I've already searched posts about engine temperatures and read how most of you have said don't tune for a specific temperature, but I just want to make sure I'm not ruining my motor. The motor is an WS7 in a Kyosho MP7.5 Inferno, 13 tooth clutchbell with 3 shoe clutch, composite shoes and stiff springs. Here is my question. I've ran about 8 tanks through the car so far and I'm now trying to lean it out for power. So far this has been done on my drive way and on the culdesac I live on. I've leaned out the top end maybe 3 hours, and the bottom end 1/4 of a turn from recommended settings. The engine is still running very rich as there is oil all over the back tire, smoking a little at WOT and a lot of low end smoke, but I'm getting temps between 240 and 260 already. This is with the body off too. The only thing that I can think of is maybe I don't have enough room on my street to get good airflow to cool the head. Should I reset the needles and start again, or would it be better to tune it at the track I run at. Oh yeah, I'm in Chino, CA (a little south of LA), outside temp has been around 80 if that helps. Thanks in advance.

Sounds to me that your to rich on the low end and to lean on the top end. You can use the temp as a guide but every engine is different, it should be between 212F and 266F. Best place to set the engine is at the track, drive 3 laps going to the max and then check the temp. When your engine begins missing performance after a few laps than your to lean on top end. To check your low end let the engine iddle for about 10-15 sec and then hit full throttle the engine most rev cleanly. I hope that the info i give can help you.

Thats kind of what I was thinking, but I didn't think that few needle changes would make that big of a difference. But I'll try that first. I was guessing on how much I adjusted the settings, but I know it wasn't a lot. This weekend, I'm going to reset my needles and take it to the track and adjust from there. Thanks for the help. I'll let you know if that was the problem.

Since you have only just run 8 tanks then the temps will also be slightly higher when leaning the motor out, as its still very tight and has a lot of friction still going on as the componates bed them self in..... Its always best to have a nice wide open space to run an engine in too. My motor (WS7)runs like a dream at 250, tons of power and loads of snap off the line
