Since you are using a 1003-S7C in a buggy, it is quite possible that you have some problems caused by the smaller cooling head.

This engine is not really intended for use in (heavier) buggies, so unless you have switched to a larger cooling head (p/n 1070-WS7 would be a direct replacement), this can cause your engine to run hotter...we have heard 20-30 degrees is not uncommon.

For initial carb settings, check the following link:

http://rbproducts.com/rbww/faqrb/carbsetting.21.htm

This should give you a rich setting, and then you can carefully lean from there...just also remember that your engine came with a 9mm carb instead of the normal 8mm carb used in buggies.

The turbo plug engine does not like off road and heavy cars! It will continually flame out on you, as a friend of mine found out. Put a 8mm restrictor in the carb (if it will take one) or change to a 8mm carb and get the regular S7 head or an O'Donnel head.

ok, sorry folks!... I never got a manual with this engine, so I was just matching it up to the pics on RB's site... turns out, this IS a standard S7, with the 55mm, 11 fin head.. and I assume the 8mm carb.... I had tried setting the carb to the suggested settings, and it would run the tank thru just fine, but when I would shut it off for cool-down, I would need to change the glow plug..... what am I doing wrong?.... thanx for all your help

When you changed the piston/liner, did you check the conrod/big-end fit?
Also do you have 0.4mm of shims between the cooling-head and liner?

If for example you have too much play between the conrod/big-end it can happen that due to the play the piston comes too close to the combustion chamber and so this can cause the overheating.
Also if you do not have enough decompression shims, the engine can overheat(same problem, the piston comes too close to the combustion chamber).

hello again... ok, I checked the big end, and is ok, and the shims are in place..... i had my doubts about the fuel tank in the buggy, so I put a new tank in, but still couldnt get running.... i took out the RB #6 plug, and tried a OS#8, and has seemed to run good!.... temps around 245, and a good stream of smoke fro the exhaust..... will this plug switch hurt/damage the engine?

We have good experiences with our glowplugs otherwise we would not propose them for our engines and prefer of course you use them.

As for the OS glowplug, if it works for you that is fine with me, however I still suggest you add 1 shim of 0.1mm to be on the safe side.

Adding shims as a temp cure??

Hi, My S7 always runs hot. It has always wanted to run at app. 130 celsius. If I tune it for a lower temp it bogs down after a while. The engine now has 12 liters of 20% Pink-Devil through it. When cold piston still sticks (had it apart last-night) and the conrod play seems excellent.

Now did i understand your advice properly? would adding a 0.1 shim make the engine run cooler?

thanx

Yes and you could even try 0.2mm but start with 0.1mm first.
