I am now in the process of breaking in my new C5 "Buggy", and since I am new at this I would appriciate some insight on a slight problem I'm seeing right now.
I have completed about 1 tank at idle (with the occasional "nudge" of the throttle) with needles all at factory setting. Temps remained fairy cool. The engine was SUPER tight, but with the help of my trusty heat gun and a nice 12V starter box I got it running - LOL.
I then richened out the main (hi-speed) needle 1 1/2 turns and started running on ground. The engine starts VERY easy, just a quick touch of the starter and it lights off.
I ran some lazy figure 8's on the ground, keeping it below 50%, but with a quick "nudge" of the throttle. The engine seems to be running fairly rich, plenty of blue smoke and a nice "blubbering" sound (not 4-stroking though).
However, it now stalls/bogs and dies whenever I take the engine over 75-80% (quick "blip" on the throttle). After completeing one tank I figured I'd try to lean the low-speed needle a bit. After leaning it out 3/4 of a turn, the engine seems much more responsive. It still wants to bog down during quick throttle changes, but much less than before.
So my question is, should I at this time try to lean the low-speed needle out a bit more? Or is the bogging caused by the rich main needle setting? (1 1/2 turn rich)

Could be the bogging is due to the rich main needle setting, try and clean out the engine by completely opening the throttle for some seconds(do this on the starterbox, wheels from the ground), if the engine is rich on the main-needle the rpm will not climb too much and you can close the main-needle untill the engine starts to clean-out. If it takes a long time before the engine cleans out you can close more the idle needle.
As long as the engine does not scream like hell there should be no real problem to do this, of course you need to moderate the rpm and heat-up the engine for a little while before you do this.

Rody, thank you so much for the quick reply! It does indeed seem that its the rich main needle that is causing this. I am still breaking the engine in, and yesterday as I ran a few tanks thru it leaning it out on the main, I noticed that the problem is almost gone.

I break mine in really rich with the Glo Lighter on the engine. It helps keep it running. I do that for about 2-3 tanks before I start leaning it out. Keeps the engine good and lube up.

HEY THUNDERMAXX,YOU MIGHT WANT TO KEEP AN EYE ON THAT BREAK IN METHOD.WITH THAT MUCH FUEL RUNNING THOUGH THERE AND THE EXTRA HEAT FROM THE GLOW IGNITER IM KINDA SUPRIZED YOU HAVE NOT BROKEN THE COIL WINDING OUT OF THE GLOW PLUG.IF THIS DOES HAPPEN YOU HAVE GOT A 50/50 CHANCE OF TRASHING THE PISTON AND SLEVE!!!!
