It has been mentioned that when breaking in the engine;to stop it before the tank is empty;so as not to let it leanout. What is the best way to do this.

Never do it by choking the carb. via the air filter. The best way to do it is to touch the flywheel with a rag or something. I do it with my fingers. It sounds dangerous buy i've never hurt myself (with the engine idling ofcourse)

Or istead with your hand you can also stop the flywheel with your shoe, or close the stinger with your finger instead of a rag (it isn't very hot).

if u do stop it by the pipe you can also send the fuel into the cumbustion chamber and it can be hard to start next time you go to run it

just turn the flywheel to the bottom of the sleeve you need to do it anyways especially when the motor is new.

Why is it bad to let it rev up/lean at the end, as its only for a few seconds? Also, what if I want to use up all the fuel in the engine, instead of leaving some in there (its supposed to cause rust/corrosion if left in there)

thanks

I already posted this on another topic on stopping your engine so i copied and pasted it for your convienience...........peet........... [Big Grin]

The best way is to stop the flywheel . i usually do this with my thumb or like rody with an old screwdriver.
Explaination on the methods.
Stopping the fuel flow : Wrong because this leans out the engine one time wont hurt but do this always you will wear out your engine very fast.
When you stop the fuel flow the engine runs to lean for say 3 seconds do this 10 times and its already a half minute......

Plugging the exhaust : better as the pressure from the exhaust also regulates your fuel flow this richens the engine and stops it by the engine not breathing anymore this is a safe way of stopping the engine but floods the crankcase in some way that it makes the engine harder to start after refueling.

Stopping the flywheel: Best as you dont lean or richen the engine the mixture in the engine stays at the last setting the engine will start right away after refuelling.

Remind to never run a engine dry by making it burn all the fuel do this and the engine will run without lubrication for a few seconds and ruining your engine like this.
Better spray some after run oil into the carb and remove the plug, cover the plughole with a cloth and put it on the starter one or two light pushes will spread the oil troughout the engine and protect it from corrosion.
The same with running a tank dry , NO lubrication and the same will happen ......

Hope i have explained it a bit....
