is it safe to break in a rb c12 engine with 30% byron's fuel? or should i use 20% then up to 30% after breakin? and if i decide to go back down to 20% and then back up to 30% will this ruin my engine?

thanks,

missispian,
if you're going to break the engine in with 30% you may have to add a shim to the engine. what are you going to use the most? if you're going to run 30% most of the time them you should add the shim and break-in the engine otherswise stay with the 20%. you should always try to break-in the engine with what you're going to use the most. this also goes for 20% regular nitro or race formula. if you break the engine-in with sayblue thunder 20% regular and then switch to 20% race formula you have to retune the engine. i only use 20% in my .12s my lhs doesn't carry 30% due to the expense and the tuning that is needed to get the engine to run correctly. and i've been told the engine will become more finiky also. good luck.

Hey MMM, me again... funny you should ask this question. I broke my engine in with 20% Byron and tuned it for performance after about 10 tanks. Then I richened it up some, about 1/2 a turn on the high speed needle and started running 30% Byron. The final setting was about 1/4 turn richer running 30% Vs 20%. Get better performance and slightly cooler temps. A heavy truck like the T-Maxx needs 30% and you don't need to worry about over-reving the engine as long as you get out of the throttle when it is air born.

Didn't mess with removing shims under the head. The engine idles and tunes perfectly. Never went back to 20%. Have about 2 gallons through the engine and she's tight as ever. It screams, just watch the temps and don't lean her out.

Oh, I forgot, I also run RB plugs. The 1056-4.

thanks for the info merc!

but the thing is, my hobbyshop doesnt carry byrons fuel, but they can order it for me. and they only come in a case of fours gallons, and if i followed what you said, you didnt use a gallon of 20% and then i would have to go back and buy some 30%. special ordered again. see my point? LHS would get tired of me, lol. but i might do that. but there would be that over half a gallon left of the 20% and i would have nothing to do with it. so i was asking is it safe to break in an engine with 30% this would make it alot easier.

hope this all makes sense,

I see... I'm sure it would be okay to break it in with 30%. I just started with 20% because I had some around because I used to run 20%. You can buy Byron in quart bottles I think.

I would just break it in with the 30%, taking your time and using a temp gun to tune it. I have been EXTREMELY pleased with the performance and reliability using Byron fuel.

i have looked and looked but i cannot find the 1056-4 plug! all i see are 1055-4, 1055-6, and 1055-8(that's for the .21 it says on the site). which of those plugs that i mentioned would be good for a hot climate like we have here in the south? and where do you buy your plugs?

thanks

The glowplug 1055-4 is delivered originally with the .12 engines which use normal glowplugs. So you can use those.
