Hello, My son has a Rody v12 engine, it is powerful but it runs on when the throttle is closed. This causes a problem braking. Has anyone got experience of this? If so what things can affect the engine to make it run on at closed throttle? Do i need to change anything, seals in carb, etc. The tickover screw is not the original one will this cause the fault ? I bought the engine off a fellow racer, so any suggestions will be great. Thanks

For the engine to do this when the throttle is in the closed position, then there is still too much air coming into the engine.
If however the idle drops very fast after you have just closed the throttle then your LSN setting is too rich.
If you lean out the LSN then clean out the engine and close the throttle again you will notice the idle will stay high longer and if you close the LSN more and clean out the engine again you will come to a point where the idle will stay high all the time, then you can lower the idle by unscrewing the idle-air screw untill you have reached a good idle.
Repeat this untill you have found the sweet spot that when you clean out the engine, you close the throttle and your idle is there and stable.
If the rpm goes up after you have cleaned out the engine and closed the throttle then your LSN is set too lean. If the rpm goes down then the LSN is still too rich.
I have stripped the V12 Rody engine(Number 0504 0025), after finding it somewhat noisy, & blowing glowplugs regularly. I wanted to keep the engine in good condition as it`s a really quick engine and i think i need to give it some maintenance.
I found the main bearing worn & very lumpy to turn, the front one is the same. The head button has some pitting on it too. Probably from blown plugs or slivers of metal off the bearings.
Can i replace the bearings with ceramic ones, and will these last longer than steel ones? If so what are the best ceramic ones to use?
I probably would be wise to change the con rod too, i don`t want this to break.

I am afraid that if the main-bearing has deceased some of the parts have gone through the engine and have done some irreversible damage.
You could replace the main-bearing for a ceramic one but I am not sure if this will be worth it in this stage. If the compression is still good when the engine is warm then yes, but if your engine has lost its compression then I think the investment will not be worth it.

Are the piston, liner & conrods still available to buy for this type of engine? I feel the piston and liner are damaged and it won`t run too well. If so where can i order them from? Nitro models in the UK maybe? Thanks, Richard
