I'm having a hard time even aproaching the MFG suggested start settings with this motor. The data sheet specs 3.5 turns for the high needle & 5 turns for the low needle. I find that the high needle has to be at 4.5 & the low (to maintain even idle) to be about 4 turns. I'm currently running the 6.5 venturi. Is it the larger air quantity that is causing me to have to richen the high needle so much? also running 30% with an extra 1mm shim in place.

Yes, this is possible and also it depends of the vicosity of the fuel you use.

The MFG settings are just a place to start from, there is no need to worry when you are off these, what is most important is that you do not runn your engine too lean if you want it too last.

I've just discovered a tear in the rubber boot on the throttle body. Obviously I want to replace this quickly to keep dirt out.(already ordered from ashford here in the US) Would a tear in this result in erratic behavior of the engine? Can air leak around this part if the boot is damaged? Thanks for your time & effort.
