Rody,I have recently pulled my V12 3port,std shaft, slide carb engine apart. The engine was running 205f at idle, and was not very sensitive to main needle adjustments(very hard too make it richer).Running the the Truck the engine got as hot as 270f but not for an extended period 30secs max.My first thought was engine is tired but it has only consumed 6litres of 20%nitro with12% oil content, anyway its apart now and the piston and sleeve seems very tight still, however there was heavy corrosion on the main bearing and around where the conecting rod locates, also there was witness marks on the back plate where the bottom of the rod was rubbing. This would seem too indicate that the bearings have too much play and would explain excessive end float, is this correct? As for the engine temps perhaps there is an air leak, any thoughts or recommendations on these two issues would be greatly appreciated

Corrosion inside the engine is no good, you need to replace the bearings to avoid eventual problems. After about 6 liters of fuel it is now time to change the conrod too, just to play it safe.
As for the marks on the backplate, this is quite normal and there needs to be some side play for the conrod and crankshaft to expand.

I think for the rest you problem is more related to the tuning of the engine rather then an air-leak.
