You can use 30% nitro in an X12 engine also but for the engine to support this I suggest you add one more head-shim of 0.1mm.

Thanks Rody, i was going to add a shim, just was not sure if it would be a good idea to run it in there. everyone i know uses 20%, dont want to decrease engine life, that is one of the best engines i have ever run. thanks again

What is the reason for having to put a shim in the motor when running 30% nitro? I run Byron 30% myself in all engines I own including my brand new(still running in) Rody v12 5 port. I haven't experienced any major problems with any engines no matter the brand. I do happen to have a 0.1mm shim in my tool box. How would it be beneficial to me to put it in my new Rody V12 engine? Or am I too late? Thanks in advance.

The reason for adding the extra head-clearance is to be more safe with the engine. In some cases like yours, it is not a real problem but in other cases where the engine is run in different circumstances it can be too close and so damage the engine.

Sometimes it is better to be safe and take precaustions because once you have gone too far it is indeed too late.

Thanks for your response. In my region where I race locally throughout the year I run in many different weather changes which does call for the need to re-tune almost every time my cars hit the track. I was wondering if adding the shim due to such varying conditions would keep me on the safer side for more engine longevity. My engines usually last a year's worth of racing weekly with no issues before needing a freshening up or re-sleeving. I feel that my current maintenance program helps me get plenty of "money's worth" out of my engines. Would the shim add to that longevity, or is more of just a performance issue? Thanks Rody for the support and any suggestions will be considered.

Yes, adding the shim makes the engine in general less sensitive for the carburetor setting. Try it and make also your own conclusion.
