Hi guys,

I just bought a brand new (supposed) X12 Rody from someone who bought it at the end of the last year season without using it at all. So I got it brand new in the box.

There is one thing weird though. I would appreciate if you can help me on this.

I thought that the compression was pretty tough, since it was very difficult to turn the fly wheel with my finger.

So this morning I put the car on an OFNA starter box, and the box wasn't strong enough to turn the flywheel.

So after looking around I remove the sparkplug to be able to turn the flywheel freely. I was amazed to see that the same friction occurs even with no sparkplug.

So briefly, is it normal that a piston move freely in a sleeve but has a lot of friction when it come at the top of the sleeve? (even with the sparkplug out).

If yes, I wonder how I will start that engine since my box is not even able to turn it without the plug [Eek!]

i will try and help. first is your starter box in good shape? second with the glow plug out that is your pinch. on this engine it will be tight with glow plug removed until you have some fuel run through it. try and never turn it over without putting some kind of ARO or lube in it, it just excelerates the wear. did you try and heat the block? have you tried to start it with the glow plug a little loose. i thought i would try and help, also try and do a search, because i think this has been covered before. later

Its normal for an engine to tight when new. High perofmance engines, like RBs are tighter than most. That is why it is important to break the engines in correctly. You say you have the engine and the new box, also you should have a set of instructions on how to break in the engine. However if the engine is too tight to turn over with the starter box, you will have to try to heat it up with either a heat gun or hair dryer. Hope this helps, if you need more info try using the search function. Theres is already plenty of info on the forum as thisis a common problem people have with new engines.
