Not wishing to be a bother but I seem to have a $200 paper weight. I recently bought a brand new RB X12. 1700-200. This is my first RB but not nearly my first engine. I tried breaking in this paticular engine exactly by the 'instuctions'. Anyway. After approxamatly 300cc's of fuel, three carburators, a new fuel tank, new fuel line and 2 other tuned pipes this one engine never ran correctly. With the low speed needle finally backed out nearly flush with the throttle arm and the fuel inlet needle out as much as 8 full turns the engine would not run rich. It would idle static at around 190-200 degrees F. Each time I tried to drive it slowly around on a flat concrete surface, even without a body, the engine would quickly go as high as 235-240 degrees. I would immediatly shut it off and let it cool. Then try again. Even with known good carburators from a REX and a Novarossi engine this engine continued to act oddly.

Now at this point I accept the fact that I'm just out the money and will eat the cost of the engine. This is a "hobby" and has few garrantee's. What does bother me is the hobby shop where I bought the engine has a 'no return' policy on this type product once it's been installed. I accept this. The instructions that come with the engine state that "These high performance competetion engines can FAIL. there is no guarantee for these failures. I accept that. But the engine has not "failed". It just isn't 'RIGHT'. I returned to the hobby shop and discussed this problem. Their possition is " You need to run at least a gallon of fuel through the engine before it comes around and runs right." (I don't think so)

So, per the instuction sheet, I visit this site and read up on "FAQ". Now here's where my problem lies. Your home page instructs me to first try my "DEALER/Supplier". I did that. They suggested I try the manufacturer. I did that. Your home page then recommends:

How to get Help or assistance?

If you have run into a problem with your RB Concept engine, we suggest that you go back with your engine to the Dealer or your Local Hobby Shop(LHS) from who you have purchased this engine.

They are very experienced persons and to solve your problem it is 10 times faster to ask them first, since they can sometimes immediately see what is wrong rather then telling us a long story without us still knowing what is wrong.

Even if it is a question for replacement or a complaint we still suggest you to go to your Dealer or LHS.

If after this your problem is still not solved or you cannot work it our with your Dealer or LHS, we suggest you contact our distributor in your country for assitance, you can find this information about our distributors "HERE".

I did that. So I contact "Sigma" in the USA. In all fairness Jim's e-mails were very polite and informative. I bought the engine on a credit card and at this point I could protest the charge, return the engine and get the charge canceled, but I don't believe that's proper. I won't resort to that. But the bottom line still comes down to:

I now have a really nice $200 paper weight.

In several private e-mails, we have patiently explained fully what you need to do to resolve your problem, and yet you have refused to do this...

Please respond to the last private e-mail sent to you and follow the directions and we are certain that you will have your problem resolved by the dealer where you purchased the engine...all of our dealers here are aware of the proper procedures for resolving such problems, and take great care in keeping their customers happy.

And, BTW we doubt that you paid $200.00 for this engine...let's try to keep the facts straight, please...

Sir, I do appologize for upsetting you, but I have done exactly as you suggested. I did this first, before I did anything else. As I stated, the response was, contact the manufacturer. I'm not sure about all of the outlets I mentioned but the one's near where I live are franchise's and each has it's own policies. Sorry for speaking out. I just voiced an opinion. As for being truthfull. I paid $164.99 for the engine and 29.99 for the accompanying header required to install in a truck. Along with tax that's pretty much $200. I did make clear that your e-mails were polite and informative.

As for naming the paticular store. I'm sorry but I don't find the store at fault. They sold a product in good faith that they believe in. I respect them and their polices. They are fine people but in this case they indicate they can't do much for me since the engine was installed. I respect that.

I'm not bashing or badmouthing anything or anyone. I just commented on a situation that seem's to be a frustrating circle of events. I will drop the issue at this point if that's okay with everyone.

We are not upset at all, rather we just want to be sure that the actual facts of the situation are being exposed, especially now that you have chosen to air this situation in public, rather than attempt to resolve it in the proper fashion as we have been trying to do.

You have actually paid $165.00 for the engine (plus tax), and not $200.00 as you have originally stated...glad that we could clear this up...

Why are you so reluctant to name the store? How can we be expected to have them honor their commitment to you (as their customer) if we do not know who they are? All of our current dealers are more than happy to help their customers, and are aware of the proper procedures for handling situations like this...

It does not seem to us like you are really serious about resolving this issue, and so we will just consider this matter closed...we are sorry that we have been unable to make you happy...

If you want to attempt to resolve this, please do as requested and reply to the prior private e-mail.
