Hey Rody,
My freinds and I were running our cars the other night at a parking lot. My car has a X12T 5 port in it and it was running at about 3 tanks after your complete run-in process. I was temping at about 190F, so I leaned it more. I got more power but we started noticing that it was smoking very little, we checked the plug and it was wet, but had some blackness to it. So I started to richen it little by little until I would get more smoke. To make a long story short, the engine's high-end needle it at 5 & 3/8 tuns out, and it still has very little smoke. I notice a little more smoke but only at about 10 feet from starting point. Are these turbo engines not supposed to smoke alot? Today, I ran it again. Here's what I came across:
- I'm running 20% Blue Thunder Race Formula(been using this on all my cars)
- outside temp is about 45-50 F
- engine temp: 185 F max
- 5 3/8 turns out on high-end
- very little smoke
- not as much power as I would like
- plug is a little wet and black(I can rub the black off with finger, not burnt on)
- the piston is wet and black

What do I do? I know I can get more power out from the engine by leaning it, but I'm very confused because it isn't smoking alot, the plug is wet BUT black, the piston is wet BUT black, and it isn't overheating. Please give me your analasis. Thanks again.

OH one more question, should I take the engine apart and clean the top of the piston?

Could be the formula of the fuel which makes your engine making less smoke. If the engine is running cool you should be able to lean out more without any problem.

If your engine would be too lean, the engine temperature would be very high and you would see no smoke and also the engine would have no power at all(like the engine sounds clean but does not have any speed).

Don't take the engine apart to clean the piston, if you are not sure about how to work with these engines I would not take it apart, especially when it is quite new.

More of my $.02.

I have found if the engine is running too cool, it can't burn the oils and does not make much smoke.

Is the exhaust pipe spewing raw fuel?

Rody,
I fuel I use is what I use on all my cars and they all have smoke. I have decided that I will just lean the engine to give me more power but I will be making sire that it doesn't overheat. I read at another thread that with these quality ABC engines, they can run up to 270DegF. I probably won't be running that hot at all. I'll be compromising power and temperature at the same time.

Droot,
Thanks for your $.02, I've never ran any of my cars this cool. All my cars run at about 220-240DegF. I will be leaning this engine for more power and see if it smokes more with higher temp readings. Hopefully I will be able to do this tonight. I'll be posting what happens.

Thanks again for everyone's input and help.

my 12x5t doesnt smoke alot with certain pipes. run 250 to 270, almost always. Same fuel you use. with different pipes they require way different tuning.
