Hi Guys,
I have read a bit about glow plug inspection and the information it can give you regarding tuning of your engine. Does anyone care to explain it and maybe help a few of us understand the tuning of our engines a little more?
Thanks

MrZ

there is a lot of info when you start talking about plugs. Instead I will lead you to www.twf8.ws go under tips then engine tips then glow-plug. Lots of info to remember but it will help you fine tune your engine

Concerning the glowplug reading, I will try to explain as simple as possible:

When you mount a new glowplug in your engine, check the wire for its shape and look and keep this in memory(since not all the wires have the same shape due to manipulation).

After you have run the engine hard you can check the wire of the glowplug.

  • When the wire is still like new, no problem.
  • When the wire has still the same shape but is becoming dull, the engine is too lean.
  • When the wire is deformed but still shining, there is too much compression!
  • When the wire is dull and deformed, too lean and too much compression!
  • When the wire is like sandblasted, much too lean or too much compression.
  • When the wire is gone, stop and check your engine!
  • When the wire is still like new but is broken, it could be some vibrations, check if your engine mounts are flat and your engine bearings.

Hope this gives you a better idea.
