I've just about got 3/4 of a gallon through my new C6 and it runs hot as hell! It's running at between 250 and 270. If I richen it out even just a bit it loads up like mad and stalls every time. What should this engine be running at and what are you guys ending up with as far as needle positions? Any help would be appreciated. I'm running a 6 plug and have LOTS of smoke but I'm getting very frustrated.

Thanks!!

If you read through this forum then we have told many times that the temp. gauges used cannot be a total reference, so if your engine is running strong and you have a trial of smoke all the way and your engine is not loosing any power then I would not worry too much about the temperature.

The low end needle is at stock setting and the HS is at 2 3/4 out? Is that still within operating limits? Also what would you say is too hot then?

Thanks!!

250 is a normal temperature. If it is a new engine you still have a little friction of the piston, after 5 liters it can be lowered with 10 F

yes, very tight compression equals hi temps, once you feed a gallon through it temps will drop/piston and sleeve will seat and the power output will increase enormously.
i thought i was a good engine tuner untill i learned on a rb engine..whole different ballgame.

i dont use a temp guage i just do the spit method and for the lsn i do the pinch method.
i look for a good snappy acceleration and a good trail of smoke then fine tune from there,i dont think those temp guages are acurate anyway so i never use them.

forgot..my lsn is about 1 turn open/out from flush and the hsn is about 3 turns out or almost flush with housing.
your lowspeed could be rich a bit and your high could be lean a bit.

As every one has said you will find the motor loosens up. My C6L2G ran about 260-270 until about 1.5 gallons. Now it runs cooler and harder as it's properly broken in.

My amature tuning method is to tune the top end to go as quickly down the main straight as I can, I keep going leaner until I see no more benefit and then back off (with the C6 I find I have only to back of 1/16th turn as its pretty sensative) and then lean the bottom and a little from stock to get good punch after 5 seconds at idle. It seems to work well for me, may be not get 100% performance, but I'm happy with it! Then I just use the temp gun as a guide, if I see the temp drop a lot I know I have some room to lean out a bit more, but I don't bother with the actual temp too much at all.

Thanks for all the info.... Between all the posts all my questions have been answered and it looks like I'm OK. Fantastic motor BTW!! I'm ripping the tread off my tires like nobodys business LOL. Seems to have more power then my OS 28XZ and I thought that was a beast!!

Again thanks and I'll post again once I have more fuel through it!!
